API Maturity Model

To help you plan your integration, we categorize our APIs by their stage in our platform modernization journey. Note that these categories often cover different weather domains and are generally not interchangeable.

  • CORE The Modern Standard: These APIs represent the future of our platform. They are built on our latest infrastructure, offering standardized JSON patterns and high performance. Please note that the overarching "Platform Guides" found in the sidebar apply exclusively to these Core APIs.
  • CLASSIC The Trusted Foundation: These established APIs are the current workhorses of our data services. They are fully supported and critical to our operations. When we prioritize these for modernization in the future, we commit to providing ample notice, clear migration guides, and hands-on support to help you move to the new version. Equivalent operational information and guides for these APIs can be found within their respective dedicated pages.

CORE Platform APIs

State-of-the-art APIs following our latest standards. RESTful, self-service, and fully documented.

Nowcast API

A specialized API providing high-frequency, short-term forecasting. It uses real-time weather observations to provide high-resolution data for the precise locations where those observations are recorded.

Key Data Domains: Real-time Observations, High-res Local Wind & Temp

Tide API

A general purpose API with a long forecast horizon. Using a combination of physical tide stations and hydrodynamic models, it provides tidal predictions for just about anywhere on the coast.

Key Data Domains: Marine, Sea Level, Tidal Predictions

CLASSIC APIs

Reliable, widely-used APIs that are active but older than our Core Platform.

Point Forecast API

General purpose deterministic weather forecasting for specific geographic points defined by latitude and longitude.

Key Data Domains: Atmospheric, Wave & Marine

Aviation API

Specialized meteorological feeds designed for flight planning, take-off and landing operations, and real-time cockpit decisions.

Key Data Domains: TAF & METAR, Aviation Charts, SigWx

Lightning API

Real-time and historical lightning strike data.

Key Data Domains: Lightning Strikes (Real-time & Historical)

1-Minute Observations API

Real-time, high-frequency weather observations from our certified sensor network. Access up to 60 days of historical data.

Key Data Domains: Real-time Observations, Weather Stations
